I have more English exams from school than necessary: Oa literature, standard set texts; Ob compulsory question on theme in Shakespeare then could be anything written in English [there was always a Chaucer question]; Use of English & A'level. I wrote poetry - I'd enjoyed writing stories and poetry in primary school. Some interesting creative writing sessions on my fine art BA with Anthony Howell. A few years later on a PGCE [post compulsory education] I saw my writing maturing, a style developing. I enjoyed writing essays [there is no novel in me], they were always very personal. In 2009 I realised I wanted to do an MA and hoped to find somewhere that had a good live art department and creative writing. Heike Roms said "you obviously don't know about Performance Writing at Dartington"....
